Ohio’s St. Edward High School handed Bergen Catholic its first loss of the season on September 26. The Eagles hosted the previously 2-1 New Jersey team.
St. Edward came into the game at 3-1, earning the 38th spot in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings. Bergen, 21st in the country, was looking for a change of momentum, coming off a loss to IMG Academy.
Striking first, the Eagles scored the only touchdown of the first quarter when Jimmy Keefe connected with Cole Gest for a 70-yard TD. In the second quarter, Keefe hit Teddy Gordon for a 57-yard to take a 14-8 lead into the half.
Turning the tables in the third quarter, Bergen Catholic came out strong on both sides of the ball. The Crusader reached the endzone twice, while only allowing a field goal, taking a 21-17 lead into the final quarter.
St. Edward responded emphatically in the fourth, scoring two touchdowns and only allowing one, holding on for a 31-28 win. Carl Jones scored the Eagles’ first TD of the quarter on a 16-yard pass from Keefe. Kyle Fallon score the second on a punt return, taking the ball 54 yards to the endzone.
Improving to 4-1, St. Edward prepares to host the 4-1 Cocoa High School. The Florida squad makes its way up to Ohio for a match on October 3. Kickoff is at 2:00pm.
