It finally looked as though Huber Heights Wayne would conquer St. Edward, however the Eagles scored two touchdown in 12 seconds to put the game away 45-35. This victory gives St. Edward its third Ohio Division I state championship since 2010, all three of which came in a face off against Wayne.

After a swing of momentum, Wayne seemingly took control of the game, leading 35-31 with under two minutes to go. Then, the Eagles found the endzone when Cole Gest punched in a 5-yard rush. Following a successful St. Edward onside kick, Gest exploded to a 51-yard scoring rush just a dozen seconds after his last score, securing St. Edward’s win.
Along with his impressive rushing totals, Gest also reeled in 11 passes for 134 yards and another touchdown. Quarterback Jimmy Keefe threw for 419 yards, tying the Division I state title game record, and two TDs.
