No. 5 St. Edward dominate No. 36 St. Joseph Regional in 42-0 shutout

St. Edward jumped from 7th to 5th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings over the weekend when the Ohio defeated its first ranked opponent of the season in stellar fashion.  Taking on 36th St. Joseph Regional, the Eagles shutout one of New Jersey’s top teams 42-0.

Quarterback Brett Kean was phenomenal, completing 18 of 23 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns.  Kean now has six on the season and 38 in his St. Edward career, a new school record.  Alex Stump and Shaun Crawford were his favorite targets.  On six catches, Stump gained 69 yards and two touchdowns.  Crawford went for 81 yards and a score on seven receptions.

Another important part of the Eagles strength was the resurgence of the running game after a shaky last game.  Cole Gest exploded early in the game, running for 61 yards and a touchdown in just the first quarter.  Following up with an even stronger second quarter, Gest added on 93 more yards and had another trip to the endzone.

St. Edward’s defense played a massive role in the shutdown, locking St. Joseph up quickly to put the ball back in its offense’s hands.  By the end of the game, the Eagles recorded 481 total yards and St. Joseph was held to just 80.

Looking to continue its way up the rankings, St. Edward faces Cincinati Elder next Saturday, September 20 and 7pm.  The Eagles have defeated Elder in each of the last four seasons.

Key Players

Brett Kean- 18-23, 210 yards, 3 TD
